Dana White has announced today that he intends to give the winner of the fight between Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta a shot at the lightweight belt.
This fight, which takes place at UFC 87 in August, will decide who best deserves the shot. Their opponent for this title fight is not yet know, as current Lightweight champion BJ Penn is facing former Lightweight champ Sean Sherk next weekend.
Florian has already had a shot at the title, losing to Sean Sherk in a five round decision. He has since earned four wins in a row, making a possible win over Huerta his fifth victory, almost certainly giving him the right to the proposed title shot.
Roger Huerta has only one loss in his MMA career, to current IFL Lightweight champion Ryan Schultz. This was very early in Huerta's career, and he hasn't lost since. He is undefeated in the UFC, currently on a six fight UFC winning streak. He too would more than qualify for a title shot after a win over Florian. We just have to wait until August to find out who will get this prestigious shot.
